Q 1. Into which relief features the land can be divided?

Ans. Mountains, Plateaus and Plains.


Q 2. What is the importance of plains?

Ans:- The Plains are agricultural and densely population areas. Plains cover 43% of India’s total area. The plains fulfill man's many needs. These are considered to be very valuable for agriculture and vegetation.


Q 3. How many types of soil is found in India? Write the names of the types.

Ans. In India mainly 6 types of soil is found:-

1. Alluvial soil

 2. Black soil

3. Desert soil

 4. Red soil

5. Laterite soil

 6. Forest and Mountainous soil


Q 4. What type of crops can be grown on black soil?

Ans. Cotton, wheat, jowar, linseeds, tobacco and sunflower etc.


Q 5. Write the names of main sources of water.

Ans. Rainfall, rivers, streams, canals, tanks and underground water etc.


Q 6. What is given by the natural vegetation to man?

Ans. We get wood, fruits, medicine and other products from the natural vegetation. It also helps in rainfall.


Q 7. What are migratory birds and where do they come from?

Ans. Migratory birds are those species of birds that come in large number to India during winter season. These come from the cold regions like Siberia and China etc.

Q 1. After mentioning the major types of soil. Write the importance of alluvial soil.

Ans. Ans. In India mainly 6 types of soil is found:-

1. Alluvial soil

2. Black soil

3. Desert soil

 4. Red soil

5. Laterite soil

 6. Forest and Mountainous soil

Alluvial soil is found over approximately 45% area of the country. This type of soil contributes a lot towards the development of our agriculture. Mostly brought and deposited by the rivers, in the plains. In the northern plains of India mainly alluvial soil is found.

 

 

Q 2. How is the soil resource being conserved?

Ans. Soil resource is being conserved by following ways:-

1. Plants should be planted on mountain slopes to prevent rapid movement of water.

2. Prevent soil from waterlogging problem by draining excess water.

3. Dams over the rivers should be constructed to stop floods

4. Good farming methods should be used.


Q 3. Give the importance of rivers and canals.

Ans. Since the beginning of the civilization, man had started living around rivers and streams. The water of the rivers and canals is being used by man to fulfill his needs by constructed dams on it. The water from these canals are used for agriculture and other activities.

 

Q 4. How the water can be conserved?

Ans. Water can be conserved by following ways:-

1. Water should not be used more than its requirement.

2. New methods of irrigation like sprinklers should be used.

3. The rainwater should be stored and used afterwards.

4. Rainwater can be used to raise water levels through ground boreholes.


Q 5. Write a note on the deciduous forests.

Ans. Deciduous forest trees shed their leaves in autumn season. The leaves grow again in spring season. This type of vegetation is mostly found in Northern India. We get wood of sal, teak, bamboo and Shisham from these forests.


Q6. What steps have been taken by the government of India for the protection and conservation of wildlife?

Ans. Indian Board for Wildlife was established in the year 1952. In the year 1972 and 2002 government passed the Acts for the protection of wildlife. Many national parks and wildlife sanctuaries have been established.
