3. Mineral and Energy Resources

Q1. Write the definition of mineral resources.

Ans. Minerals are those natural products which are made up of one or more elements and are dug out from the Earth.


Q2. Where do iron-ore found in India?

Ans. Bihar, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Tamilnadu.



Q3. What are the uses of copper?

Ans. Copper is used in the production of utensils, coins, electric wires and other electrical equipment.


Q4. Name the famous gold mines in India.

Ans. Kolar, Hatti (Karnataka), Ramgiri (Andhra Pradesh).


Q5. How should we use the atomic minerals?

Ans. Atomic minerals should be used very carefully. These should only be used for the development of the country by generating energy and not for destruction and pollution.


Q6. What are the non-conventional sources of energy?

Ans. The non-conventional source of energy include Solar Energy, Wind Energy, Tidal Energy, Geo-Thermal Energy, cowdung energy and from other waste material etc.

Ans. Bauxite is an important ore from which Aluminium is made. This is a clay type metal. Aluminium is being used in many industries on a large scale. It is used in manufacturing of utensils, electric wires, automobiles, railways, ships, aeroplanes etc.


Q2. What is the importance of natural gas in our life and name the major areas in our country where it is found?

Ans. Natural gas is a very good energy resource. It is used for cooking at homes, as fuel for vehicles and in various industries. Krishna-Godawari basin, a place in Bay of Bengal near Odisha and Barmer in Rajasthan and Barmer in Rajasthan are very important natural gas producing areas in India


Q3. Name the important factors which are favourable for the generation of Hydroelectricity?

Ans. Following are the important factors for generation of Hydroelectricity:

1. The water source should be perennial in nature.

2. There should be required slope or height in the path of the water.

3. Sufficient amount of water for generation of electricity should be available.

5. There should be demand for electricity in the area.
